Fairgrounds/Petaluma City Council Updates

February 19, 2020

Dear Live Oak Charter Families and Friends:

On January 31st the Petaluma City Council held its first public meeting with the fairgrounds board to share it’s planning process for the fairground’s future. The city will be soliciting public feedback on the project between March and June. We are excited to be part of this conversation and feel positive about possible opportunities and partnerships for Live Oak.
Please use the following link to receive updates on the Fairgrounds Planning Process here:  https://cityofpetaluma.org/fairgrounds-planning/
An initial opportunity to represent Live Oak to city officials and the wider community is this Saturday, February 22 from 9-2. Petaluma City Council is hosting a City of Petaluma Goals and Priorities Workshop at Herzog Hall.
Parents are encouraged to participate in all or part of this workshop. This and future public meetings are important places to raise awareness about Live Oak, sharing personal stories about what we offer to Petaluma and public education. Share what you love about our school and our location. Please wear your live oak swag! We’ll have a table Friday morning if you’d like more information. We’ll also have free stickers to share!
For more information about this Saturday’s workshop please visit here:  https://cityofpetaluma.org/city-manager-goals-priorities/
As always, if you have any questions, comments, or suggestions about the City’s process or Live Oak’s own visioning, please feel free to contact me.

Thank you,
Justin Tomola
Director

Please sign up for email updates and information at https://cityofpetaluma.org/fairgrounds/ and share this link with your friends. The community’s input is important, and everyone will want to know of their opportunities to chime in.

Dear Live Oak Charter School Families and Friends,
As many of you are aware, Live Oak is a one of many tenants on the 64-acre Sonoma-/Marin County Fairgrounds. We have beautifully formed and grown on this campus for 16 of our 19 years in public education! Through these years Live Oak’s leadership has known that the 50-year lease between the Fairgrounds and the City of Petaluma would come to a close in 2023. However, the public meeting this Friday, January 31 at 9 am, is the first opportunity to see and hear more about the city’s planning process and current ideas.
Please read the background and details about Friday’s meeting in the Jan 23, 2020 Petaluma Argus Courier newspaper article. https://www.petaluma360.com/news/10595840-181/sonoma-marin-fairgrounds-future-up-for?sba=AAS
Live Oak Leadership actively collaborates with the Fairgrounds. When the stakeholder conversations become part of the City’s process, we will be engaged in conversation with City Manager, Peggy Flynn, and the Petaluma Planning Commission.
At this time, it is most important that Live Oak shows its strong community presence by being visible (wear that Live Oak gear!) at public meetings and to listen and learn the complexities of the process and topic. Let’s prepare ourselves to be informed, engaged and creative partners in future discussions.
Please join me in attendance at Friday’s public meeting in the City of Petaluma Council Chambers at 9am. If you have any questions, comments, or suggestions about the City’s process or Live Oak’s own visioning and please feel free to contact me.
Best,
Justin Tomola
