Live Oak is currently accepting applications for the 2010-2011 school year, for grades Kindergarten through Eighth.  

ADMISSIONS STATEMENT
As a public charter school, Live Oak does not discriminate in its admission of students on the basis of race, ethnicity, gender, or economic status.

PARENT PARTICIPATION
Live Oak seeks to recruit an informed parent community, comprised of adults who understand and support the vision and values of the school. Parents provide the volunteer time and financial support necessary for the school to offer a rich program inspired by Waldorf education, which includes diverse and rewarding language arts, math, science, arts, movement, and Spanish-language experiences for students in all grades.

ADMISSIONS PRIORITIES
Live Oak Charter School admits students according to the following admission priorities:

  1. Returning students.
  2. Siblings of currently enrolled or returning students.
  3. Children of the school staff and Board of Directors.
  4. Children residing in the Petaluma Elementary School District with at least one parent who has completed a three-hour Admissions Orientation to Live Oak Charter School.
  5. Children with at least one parent who has completed a three-hour Admissions Orientation to Live Oak Charter School.
  6. Children residing in the Petaluma Elementary School District.
  7. Children residing in the following Districts: Cinnabar, Cotati-Rohnert Park, Dunham, Old Adobe, Two Rock, Waugh, Wilmar, Wilson, Liberty.
  8. Children residing in Sonoma and Marin counties.
  9. Children residing in the State of California.
  10. All other applicants.

KINDERGARTEN ADMISSIONS
Live Oak Charter School encourages first grade readiness by allowing adequate time in Kindergarten. Children who turn five between December 2 and May 31 are eligible for one year of Kindergarten. Children who turn five between June 1 and December 1 are eligible for two years of Kindergarten. The Kindergarten Faculty and the Education Director determine first grade readiness.

ADMISSIONS ORIENTATION 
To improve a child’s admission preference status, parents may choose to attend a multi-session Admissions Orientation Workshop, held in February and March, that is designed to introduce families to Waldorf education and the vision and values of the Live Oak school community. 

ENROLLMENT PROCESS

  1. Your completed application must be turned in to the School Office no later than 5:00 PM on Friday, March 12, 2010.
  2. You will receive a confirmation letter acknowledging the receipt of your application.
  3. If there are any subsequent requests for additional information, please comply in a timely manner. Failure to do so may delay the admissions process and may disqualify you from enrollment.
  4. You will be notified in writing of your provisional acceptance no later than Monday, April 12, 2010 if your child has been enrolled at Live Oak for the 2010/11 school year, or placed on a waiting list, and you will be invited to a meeting with the Executive Director.
  5. In consideration of other students, if at any time during the enrollment process you decide not to enroll your child, please notify the School Office immediately.
  6. During the summer you will receive a School newsletter with information about Back-to-School Night, about Campus Work Days at which you can help prepare your class and the campus for the new school year, and about the voluntary, tax-deductible Parent Pledge Program that helps fund the Live Oak educational program.
